Is what I'm feeling normal?
Short answer: probably yes — and still worth caring about
Most difficult emotions are normal human responses to stress, loss, change, or exhaustion. Feeling sad after a breakup is normal. Feeling anxious before an exam is normal. Feeling empty after months of overwork is normal. Normal doesn't mean you have to suffer through it alone.
When normal becomes something to address
- •Symptoms last more than two weeks without relief
- •Daily life is significantly harder (work, sleep, relationships)
- •You're using alcohol, substances, or self-harm to cope
- •You have thoughts of suicide or self-harm
- •Others have expressed concern about changes in you
- •You can't remember the last time you felt okay
You don't need a diagnosis to deserve help
You don't have to hit a clinical threshold to take a self-assessment, try a breathing exercise, read a story, or call a helpline. If something feels off, that's reason enough to explore support.
